Why We Created This Event

While major Pride celebrations are often centered in cities, LGBTQ+ individuals and families live everywhere—including right here in Oak Park and the surrounding suburbs. Out in the Burbs was created to ensure that Pride is visible, accessible, and celebrated in our own backyard.

This event is about making space—boldly and joyfully—for love, identity, connection, and community. It's for the queer kid growing up in Forest Park, the trans couple living in Berwyn, and the ally business owner in Oak Park who wants to stand up and show support.

Out in the Burbs is by and for the community—and our community shows up.

  • A space for youth to celebrate, connect, and feel seen.

Our Teen Pride Zone is a dedicated area for LGBTQ+ teens and allies, ages 13–20, to express themselves freely, connect with others, and celebrate Pride in a safe, supportive environment. This space is created in partnership with local youth organizations and features age-appropriate programming including games, music, art activities, a mini open mic, and more.

    Security & Safety Protocols

We take youth safety seriously. Teen Pride will be:

    • Monitored by trained youth-supportive volunteers and staff

    • Fenced and visibly marked, with a single monitored entrance/exit

    • Closed to adults over 19, unless they are event staff or volunteers with credentials

    • Equipped with First Aid and a direct line to security on-site

    • Designated quiet area and mental health support resources available

Teens are welcome to join the full event but are encouraged to use this zone as a gathering space of their own.

  • A full day of bold beats, brilliant voices, and drag that brings the house down.

Out in the Burbs is known for its stacked entertainment lineup—and 2025 is no exception. From rising stars to Chicago icons, our performers bring queer excellence to the stage all day long.

    This year’s lineup includes:

    • DJ Zeetus Lapetus – Kicking things off with local flair and fierce energy

    • The Divas – A dynamic drag and dance performance group known for turning the party

    • DJ Ca$h Era – Midwest powerhouse DJ with beats that move the crowd and the culture

Our Vendor & Resource Fair is the heart of the event—bringing together over 75 local businesses, artists, makers, and nonprofit organizations. Whether you're looking to shop queer-owned goods, support small businesses, or connect with services that support the LGBTQ+ community, this is your go-to space.

    You’ll find:

    • Handmade and artisan goods

    • Queer-owned businesses and creators

    • Local nonprofits and service providers offering resources

    • Giveaways, swag, and interactive booths

    • Live demonstrations, mini-performances, and surprise pop-ups

Vendor booths are open from 12 PM – 8 PM. All vendors are vetted to ensure alignment with inclusive and welcoming values. Many of our nonprofit partners will be offering health, wellness, housing, and youth support information throughout the day.

  • Grab a bite. Sip something strong. Stay and play.

Out in the Burbs brings the flavor with a rotating lineup of local food trucks, pop-up vendors, and sweet treats throughout the day. Whether you're craving street tacos, vegan comfort food, or a classic festival snack, our food court area has you covered.
